Coca-Cola Employer Brand of Choice

Coca-Cola is the employer brand of choice of most British workers, according to new research from HireScores.com.

The research, which polled the most appealing workplaces for British workers, found that 76% said their ‘dream job’ would be at Coca-Cola, with 23% admitting it is for the ‘freebies’ and 42% saying the ‘salary’ is the main reason for Coca-Cola being their dream job.

Of the 48% that dream of working for Disney, 34% said they believed the firm had a ‘fun atmosphere’, while 28% claim it has been a ‘childhood dream’.

Recruitment Activity on the Rise

Job openings are on the rise, while confidence among jobseekers has improved, according to the latest Totaljobs Barometer.

The Barometer reveals that the number of jobs available has increased by 6.5% from Q1 2010 to Q2 2010, while each job vacancy received an average of 10 applications, peaking at 26 for secretarial and PA roles.

Growth of Staff Appointments Eased

The Report on Jobs published today by the REC and KPMG revealed that both permanent and temporary staff appointments increased at slower, albeit still marked, rates during June.

Recruitment consultancies recorded another strong rise in permanent staff placements during June, albeit the slowest in five months. Higher placements were underpinned by a further improvement in demand for permanent staff.

Although still solid, growth of temporary staff billings eased to a seven-month low in June. The rate of increase remained below that signalled for permanent appointments.

Financial Sector Sexist Attitudes

One in five senior women recruiters claim their company discriminates against women when recruiting for senior management roles, despite published company diversity policies, according to research from recruitment specialist in finance, accounting, HR, banking and financial services Poolia.

Almost a third (30%) do not think women have the same opportunities as men, and almost half believe women who take their full maternity leave will damage their career. Consequently almost one in four of the female recruiters interviewed think career-oriented women should take a shorter maternity break.

Talent management programmes are key to making employees feel engaged at work, according to new research from Capgemini Consulting and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

The study, comprised of a survey of 300 respondents and interviews with senior leaders in a talent programme within each organisation, shows 81% of respondents said talent management programmes make them feel more engaged at work

Immigration Cap Could Widen Healthcare Skills Gap

A cap on immigration could impair the UK’s ability to recruit the necessary number of overseas consultants to fill skills shortages in the health sector, according to John Faraguna, managing director of Hays Health and Social Care.

The home secretary Theresa May yesterday announced a 12-week consultation to decide on a permanent annual limit on the number of non-EU arrivals entering the UK.

World Cup Fever

World Cup fever is failing to reach UK IT departments, according to a survey by the IT Job Board.

With only 14% of IT pros having booked annual leave to watch the matches, and a mere 8% admitting they will call in sick to watch the England games, it seems that companies won’t suffer from issues relating to staff absenteeism.

The survey polled both IT staff and employers, and when it came to employee responses, nearly two thirds (62%) said they won’t be watching any games during working hours.

Bruce Dewar, chief executive of 2010 Legacies Now, the organisation tasked with creating a lasting legacy from the recent Winter Olympics in Vancouver, urged employers to do their planning and their recruiting now. “The pressure will increase hugely with one year to go,” he warned.
